Welcome to the Patel Lab

Uncovering circuit mechanisms of mental health disorders

Our goal is to understand how neuroimmune mechanisms and social factors interact with neural circuits contributing to mental health disorders.

We use a multidisciplinary approach to gain mechanistic insight into the brain, including:

  • Molecular Biology

    To visualize cellular-level gene expression

  • Patch-Clamp Electrophysiology

To assess synaptic-level transmission between neurons

  • Circuit Manipulation

To dissect circuit-level connectivity underlying behavior

  • In Vivo Calcium Imaging

To measure cellular-level neural dynamics during behavior

  • Cell-Type Sequencing

To explore glial and neuronal transcriptomic signatures of experience

  • Rodent Behavior

To investigate endophenotypes associated with mental health disorders

The Patel lab is located in the Searle Medical Research building in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL.
